The Cyber University of Korea (CUK) is Korea’s first online university that was founded in
2001 by Dr. Byung Kwan Kim, the former chairman of the Korea Choongang Education Foundation
in accordance with the educational philosophy of providing creativity and service.

In our position as a four-year higher education institution, we are affiliated to both the Korea Choongang Education Foundation and Korea University, which is rightly championed as one of the most prestigious universities in Korea. To ensure that the contents of the CUK courses were in accordance with the reputation and weighty traditions of Korea University, they were developed jointly with such a prestigious private university. Moreover, by sharing such a substantial infrastructure with Korea University, we have now set the standard of higher online education and a high-tech content production system that other institutions will find it hard to follow. In addition, CUK will now take the necessary steps to set the future trends for lifelong learning in Korea through its innovative curriculum, systematic support services for students, and industry-academia/international cooperation with esteemed institutions situated domestically and internationally.

The Cyber University of Korea (formerly Korea Digital University), initially founded in 2001 with 7 departments, has since then, grown to become a university consisting of 2 colleges that contain 14 divisions, 14 departments and 8 degree programs as well as Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies. In 2003, we held the first Online University Academic Forum with the aim of presenting the vision for online education, while in 2010, we established RCI-Korea and developed Korea’s only caregiving training program in collaboration with the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving, a US-based caregiving institution. In keeping with its ever-expanding efforts, the university opened its graduate school (currently, the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies) in 2013, and launched a free online educational program that provides people with the opportunity to learn the Korean language, Quick Korean, in the same year. Furthermore, CUK will not relinquish its position as a leader in providing online education, specifically in consideration of its role as a pioneer in providing a special participatory lecture program that was available to everyone, ‘CUK ON’ in 2017, while at the same time, converging different fields of studies through the establishment of the Division of Future Convergence.

From the moment President Jin-Sung Kim first took office in 2017, CUK has completely restructured both its education and management system. By adopting a transparent and efficient administration, CUK has been able to strengthen its industry-academia cooperation with major organizations in Korea. Based on these transparent and modern educational/administrative services, CUK continues to take the initiative and will always be the future of online education in the present day.
